The Center's objectives are to organize breeding programs to develop apricot varieties and rootstocks for various purposes, conduct research on the development and dissemination of agricultural techniques that will reduce production costs, conduct research to develop, promote, and expand the consumption of high-value-added apricot fruit, pits, and seeds, and collaborate with government agencies and private sector organizations to address challenges faced in the apricot sector.
The Center's areas of activity are as follows:
a) To organize breeding programs to develop new apricot varieties for table and drying purposes, to register new apricot varieties, and to promote them both domestically and internationally.
b) To conduct interspecific hybridization and tissue culture studies to develop clonally propagated dwarf and semi-dwarf apricot rootstocks.
c) To conduct research on the therapeutic properties of the amygdalin compound found in bitter apricot seeds, to organize research programs in the fields of medical-biochemistry, bioengineering, and biomedical sciences to develop pharmaceutical and food supplement products from bitter and sweet apricot seeds using microencapsulation, and to investigate and test the mechanisms of action of the developed products.
ç) To conduct research on apricot preserves, pulp, nectar, jam, marmalade, and minimally processed and frozen products that will contribute to increasing the added value of apricot fruit.
d) To develop new methods for modern apricot cultivation, establish demonstration orchards for this purpose, and organize training programs for apricot producers to disseminate new techniques.
e) To collect and preserve apricot species and varieties, establish an apricot gene bank, and conduct genetic analyses of collected material using molecular techniques.
f) To conduct research and training activities to disseminate organic apricot cultivation and good agricultural practices.
g) Develop mechanization techniques to reduce production costs in apricot harvesting, booties, and drying processes, and organize training programs to promote mechanization.
ğ) Develop joint projects with government agencies and the private sector on integrated facilities, licensed warehousing, clustering in global competition, and innovation to enhance the apricot value chain.
h) Investigate long-term storage opportunities for sun-dried, organic, and sulfur-rich apricots without losing their quality, and research and develop reliable methods for removing excess sulfur from high-sulfur dried apricots.
ı) Conduct scientific studies on the benefits of apricots for human health, share them with the public, and conduct publications to increase apricot consumption.
i) Establish laboratories for apricot quality and residue analyses and serve as a reference center at regional and national levels.
j) Strengthen the relationship between universities and producers, organize national and international scientific meetings to contribute to the solutions to the problems faced by producers, participate in these meetings, and bring together domestic and international researchers and apricot producers.
k) To establish an apricot library and apricot museum by collecting national and international publications on apricots and to make the center's written and visual materials available to researchers working on apricots.
l) To conduct scientific research, development, analysis, and publication activities related to apricot production, and to publish periodicals for this purpose.
m) To contribute to the development of the apricot sector in the region and the country by preparing projects to benefit from national and international funds and by participating in existing projects.
n) To contribute to the appreciation and development of apricots at local, national, and international levels through activities carried out in line with the center's objectives and areas of activity.
o) To engage in other apricot-related activities in line with the center's founding purpose.
